10 Reasons to Get Involved with the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk

Written by GBU | Aug 28, 2018 1:02:52 PM

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and every September, Greater Boston Urology joins forces with ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer for ZERO’s annual run/walk. Together, we’re working hard to create the first generation of men free from prostate cancer.

Now, if that’s not reason enough to get involved, here are 10 more reasons to consider.

  1. No other prostate cancer charity spends more per dollar on programs – more than 85 cents. You can rest assured that ZERO will put the money we raise to good use
  1. In addition to supporting research that could lead to better treatments and even a cure, money supports education and encourages screening. Prostate cancer is a very treatable disease, provided it’s caught in the early stages, and certain populations are at greater risk, including African American men.
  1. Did someone say FREE parking? We know heading out to these events can be stressful when it comes to the questions “How am I going to get there? Where will I park?” So we’re happy to report that there will be free parking on race day at the Newton City Hall parking lots.
  1. The monetary goal for the Boston race/walk is $100,000. We can’t do it alone. Every donation, no matter how small, will help.
  1. Did someone say FREE t-shirts? When you join Team GBU, you get a free t-shirt promoting the event. And we’re talking cool tees that you’ll want to wear again.
  1. It’s practically guaranteed that you’ll have a great time. How can you not when you’re involved with a group like the one below?

  1. Two words: family friendly. We know the weekend is prime family time, especially for families with kids. On race day, there will be fun things for the kiddos to do, including a Superhero Dash for Dads.
  1. You can sleep in. The race doesn’t start until 9 a.m. Catch a few extra winks, join us for the 5K (or the one-mile option) in Newton, and then head out to breakfast.
  1. You’ll get much-needed exercise after watching all those Sox games. The Red Sox are on fire this year, making it fun to hang out on the couch (and often for extra innings!). But it’s time to take a break from the action and get your body moving.
  1. We’re in this together. Given one in nine American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, this deadly disease is likely to affect all of us in some fashion. Let’s fight it together on Sunday, September 9.
