We're thrilled to welcome our newest urogynecologist, Dr. Dima Ezzedine, to the Greater Boston Urology family. Dr. Ezzedine will be working out of our new Women's Health Center in our Plymouth location at 45 Home Depot Drive.
Dr. Ezzedine earned her medical degree from the Lebanese University, Faculty of Medical Sciences, in Beirut, Lebanon. She completed two residencies in obstetrics and gynecology—one at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and the other at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
We asked Dr. Ezzedine to sit down for a short Q&A.
When did you know you wanted to become a doctor? Was there one a-ha moment or did you come to the decision over time?
DR. EZZEDINE: I wanted to become a doctor for as long as I can remember. I was always fascinated by how knowledgeable, caring, and kind the doctors I met growing up were to me and to everyone around them. I was lucky to have met some of the most wonderful doctors. They were courteous, empathetic, and comforting. They always "magically" knew what was wrong, and they always made their patients feel good even before they received any treatment. They were like modern days knights! They beautifully portrayed what a good doctor is, and I wanted to be just like them one day.
What inspired you to pursue urogynecology as your specialty?
DR. EZZEDINE: I have always been a practical person. I wanted to fix things with my own hands. I am also, most importantly, a women's health and empowerment advocate. So, for me, gynecology in general was a natural choice. After I started my residency training, I was watching one of the surgeons perform a vaginal hysterectomy and colpopexy and I knew right away that urogynecology is my calling.
What do you love most about practicing medicine/urogynecology?
DR. EZZEDINE: What I love the most is seeing a smile on the faces of my patients after a successful surgery or treatment. I know that the treatments and procedures that I can offer my patients can effectively improve their conditions, and I am always grateful for the opportunity to leave a positive impact on their lives. Being able to help my patients is a blessing, an honor, and a privilege that I never take lightly.
Tell us a little about yourself—outside of work, what do you like to do? What's a surprising/fun fact that not too many people know about you?
DR. EZZEDINE: Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family. My husband, who is also a physician, is as busy as I am, so we do cherish the moments that we get to spend together with our young son. I also like the outdoors A LOT! I like to explore different parks and go on hikes or go kayaking or biking. A fun fact about me that some people find surprising and sometimes confusing is that I am ambidextrous but in a funny way. Let me explain: I use my right hand mainly when I write or perform surgery (but I can also do those with my left hand!). And I use my left hand when I eat, cook, open doors, or do pretty much anything else.
Aside from getting settled in GBU's Plymouth Care Center, what are you most looking forward to doing in the greater Boston area?
DR. EZZEDINE: Believe it or not, before coming here, I did not know that Plymouth is a historical town and a tourist's destination regularly visited by people from all over the country. I would love to learn more about the history of the area, go to the beaches, and explore all the beautiful parks. I am also looking forward to reconnecting with my old friends here and creating fun and happy memories together.
Is there anything else you'd like your patients to know or that you want to convey?
DR. EZZEDINE: I am very excited to join Greater Boston Urology in Plymouth and to meet my dear patients. I want them to know that I am here for them. No matter what pelvic health issues they are experiencing, their health and wellbeing is going to be my primary focus. I plan to provide them with clear explanations, expert guidance, and the best, most evidence-based treatments and procedures in the field of urogynecology. To my future patients: Thank you for allowing me to care for you, and I cannot wait to meet you all at our Women's Health Center in Plymouth.
