What is Urogynecology?

Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) is the surgical subspecialty of gynecology and urology that specifically addresses female pelvic floor disorders.

At Greater Boston Urology, we have a dedicated Women’s Health Center in our Dedham, Plymouth, and Hyannis locations. Dr. Angel Marie Johnson serves as the director and sees patients in Dedham. Dr. Dima Ezzedine sees patients in Plymouth and Hyannis.

Together, they offer a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Dr. Johnson is famous for saying that urogynecology is all about improving a woman’s quality of life. Many of the symptoms she and Dr. Ezzedine treat are common in post-menopausal women. However, just because these are common symptoms, that doesn’t mean you need to live with them.

Birth trauma (e.g., trauma to the perineum during childbirth)
Chronic pelvic pain, myofascial pelvic pain
Congenital anomalies of the female reproductive tract (imperforate hymen, vaginal septums)
Defecatory dysfunction (constipation, stool leakage, gas leakage)
Emptying disorders (difficulty urinating or moving bowels)
Fistula repair
Overactive bladder (frequent urination, urinary urgency, urinary incontinence, nocturia)
Painful bladder syndrome or interstitial cystitis
