Clinical research at Greater Boston Urology

Advancing urologic care through research

At Greater Boston Urology, clinical research is central to how we care for patients. By participating in clinical trials, our physicians give patients early access to emerging treatments, diagnostic tools, and therapies — often years before they become widely available. Every new medication or medical device must first pass through rigorous, well-controlled studies to prove it’s safe and effective, and our research program is part of that process.

Our team’s involvement in this work isn’t just about staying current with the field. It reflects our broader commitment: bringing patients the most advanced, evidence-based urologic care possible, while upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and patient protection.

A program built on experience

Greater Boston Urology brings together a large, multi-site team of urologists, advanced practice clinicians, and support staff, giving us access to a broad and diverse patient population. That scale allows us to identify eligible candidates and move trials — including Phase II and Phase III studies — forward efficiently, without compromising the quality of care or oversight at any step.

Our research activities are overseen by physicians with specialized training and years of experience serving as Principal Investigators, supported by a dedicated team of clinical research coordinators. All participating locations share a unified electronic medical record system, built with research-specific documentation tools to keep every study organized, accurate, and compliant.

Our dedicated research space is equipped for the demands of clinical trials — including secure medication storage, specialized diagnostic equipment, and locked storage for source documents — so that every study is conducted to protocol from start to finish.

Why patients choose to participate

Joining a clinical trial is a personal decision, and we want every patient to make that choice with clear, complete information. Here’s what patients can expect when they take part in a study through Greater Boston Urology:

Personalized attention

Participants receive close, individualized monitoring throughout the study.

No cost for study medication

Treatments used in the trial are provided by the study sponsor.

Direct access to your care team

Patients are given direct contact information for their research coordinator, so questions never go unanswered.

A voluntary commitment

Participation is entirely your choice, and you may withdraw from a study at any time, for any reason.

Confidentiality

Your personal and medical information is protected and kept confidential throughout the study.

A broader impact

Beyond your own care, your participation contributes to research that may benefit future patients facing the same condition.

Possible compensation

Depending on the study, patients may be compensated for their time and participation.
